If you're thinking of seeing this show, don't.
Okay it wasn't that bad, but I wasn't a fan. A colleague of mine recommended I see it and I was intrigued by Peter Dinklage on stage. Tickets were only available through Ticketmaster so I used one of my handy mailer promo codes and bought them.
Cyrano is a revival of a 1973 musical based on a play written in 1897 by Edmond Rostand, taking place in 1640s France. There's a love triangle involving Cyrano, Roxanne, and a dimwit third character. Honestly, it felt more like a Shakespeare knockoff than anything else.
The music was nothing special. None of the songs were particularly catchy, in fact I'd describe them all as forgettable.
The play had some redeeming moments. Peter Dinklage takes impressive command of the stage when he's performing. Often he seemed like the only character worth watching.
My favorite thing however, was this was performed at the Daryl Roth Theatre in Union Square. It was an easy walk home after watching a mess.
